Clay Planters
After finishing their pinch pots, the 6th grade art students will move on to a more advanced form of pottery. They will create one-of-a-kind hanging planters using the plastic slab method. The slab method is an essential technique for working with plastic clay. In this method, plastic clay is rolled to a certain thickness, texture is added and the pieces are cut into workable shapes. Then the students bend and mold the clay into a serviceable planter.

Weekly Sketches
An essential component of any art program is drawing. With the limited amount of time that students have in art class, it is best for the students to do their sketching as homework with the teacher discussing each project individually with the student. By doing this, painting, ceramics, pen and ink, as well as other medias can be exerienced in the classroom. Each grade level has different sketches that are to be done at home each week so that the teacher can monitor their progress.
